JACKSONVILLE (970 WFLA) -- Five Bay area supermarkets are closing, as a result of Bi-Lo, the parent company of Winn-Dixie, buying the Sweetbay chain. The Federal Trade Commission approved that deal today, according to a release from Bi-Lo.
The company says it is closing the stores because they are too close to other Bi-Lo owned stores. The Sweetbay, Harvey's and Reid's supermarket chains belonged to Delhaize America, until Bi-Lo agreed to a purchase deal in May of 2013.
Here are the stores affected and their closing dates:
Sweetbay #1798, Dade City, April 5
Sweetbay #1872, Zephyrhills, April 5
Winn-Dixie #699, St. Petersburg, May 10
Winn-Dixie #624, Tarpon Springs, May 17
Winn-Dixie #647, Seffner, May 24
16 other stores are closing in Florida and South Carolina.
