BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Hernando County Sheriff’s deputies say a child was taken to the hospital after being found at the bottom of a pool.

Deputies say they were called to the 7500 block of Gordon Loop Sunday just before 4 p.m. for a possible drowning.

Deputies say initial reports indicate that a family was visiting this home and was invited to use the swimming pool.

An adult and a three-year-old child were in the pool area when the adult decided to go to a nearby shed to retrieve an item, deputies say, and the adult thought the child was following close behind. When the adult realized the child was not around, deputies say they immediately checked the pool and found the child at the bottom of the pool.

The adult immediately got the child out of the pool and called 9-1-1.

The child was transported by ambulance to Bayfront Health Brooksville and then airlifted to All Children's Hospital in St. Petersburg, according to HCSO.

Deputies say the condition of the child is unknown.
