TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - The barricades and bleachers are in place along Bayshore Boulevard for Saturday's Gasparilla Pirate Invasion and Parade.
There will also be a fireworks show to cap off the festivities tomorrow night at Curtis Hixon Waterfront Park.
Event organizer Darryl Stephany says it's the first time there's been Gasparilla fireworks since the children's parade began more than a decade ago.
“Ever since we, if you will allow me to say, moved all of our pyrotechnic budget into the children’s parade, which was 2002, we have not done fireworks in the park after pirate fest. So what we’ve done this year and thanks to the sponsorship of Seminole Hard Rock and some other sponsors that have stepped up this year, we decided that we wanted to put a little exclamation point on that after party,” Stephany said.
The fireworks are set for 10 p.m. Saturday night.
The parade begins at 2pm at Bay-to-Bay and Bayshore Boulevard and ends in downtown Tampa.
Bayshore Boulevard will close to traffic at 10pm Friday night.
