MIAMI (AP) - A state wildlife commission report says 62 people were killed in boating accidents last year and there have been eleven deaths so far this year.
The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission released its 2013 boating accident statistical report on Friday ahead of Memorial Day weekend.
The commission is responsible for reviewing, analyzing and compiling boating accident data for the state. its statistical report details boating accidents and their causes. Failing to have a proper lookout is a leading cause of boating accidents and in fatal accidents, drowning is the leading cause of death.
Lt. Seth Wagner said in a statement: “With the number of boaters in our beautiful state, it's important to pay close attention to everything that's going on around you.”
