Gun legislation back in the forefront for session

Gun legislation back in the forefront for session
Posted Sunday, March 2nd 2014 @ 5pm

TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) - Florida's gun-friendly nature is set to be scrutinized again as the 2014 legislative session begins this week.

Several nationally publicized incidents have sparked more ‘stand your ground' debate, in addition to the proposed ‘warning shot’ legislation after a 2013 session in which no major gun legislation was passed.

Firearms will be in the forefront after a year that included the George Zimmerman trial, the Marissa Alexander “warning shot” ruling, the loud-music killing and the texting-in-the-movies killing.

The session is also expected to hear legislation that would mandate local law enforcement provide guidelines for neighborhood watches. One bill aims to prevent insurance companies from discriminating against gun owners. Another aims to keep schools from punishing children pretending to play with guns.
