TAMPA, Fla. (970 WFLA) - Great news for a local soldier injured in action while on foot patrol in Afghanistan in 2011.

Sgt. Michael Nicholson is now a triple amputee and the Tunnel to Towers Foundation has built him a new home in South Tampa to meet his needs.

“Sgt. Nicholson is amazing. He grew up in South Tampa and that’s where he wanted to live the rest of his life is here in South Tampa. So we’re excited that Thursday morning we are turning over the smart house that we built over the last eight months,” Foundation spokesman Chris Kuban said.

The house includes things like push-button doors, a kitchen with shelving, and appliances that raise and lower to meet Nicholson's needs, Kuban said.
