ST. PETE BEACH, Fla. (970 WFLA) – The quick actions of a New York man at St. Pete beach likely saved another man’s life, according to Pinellas deputies.
According to deputies, a 66-year-old man from Smyrna, Georgia swam from shore out to the swim bouys Tuesday just before 7 p.m., about 100 yards from shore near the 3600 block of Gulf Boulevard.
Deputies say the man became tired and yelled for help as he began to go under several times.
A 28-year-old man from Kenmore, New York and his wife heard the cries for help and saw the man beginning to go under. The man swam out and brought him to shore safely while his wife called 911.
St. Pete Beach firefighters treated the man at the scene and kept him under observation.
Deputies say this was an isolated stretch of beach with no one else in the area.
