PLANT CITY, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Hillsborough County Sheriff's deputies are investigating after they say train and semi tractor trailer collided.
According to Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office investigators, the driver of a semi tractor trailer logging truck was heading westbound on Moriczville Lane crossing over the railroad tracks at S.R. 39 in Plant City. Deputies said the truck was carrying a load of timber he had just picked up when he crossed the tracks and failed to see a CSX cargo train heading southbound. Deputies said the front of the train struck the semi cab and dragged it 1000 feet south along the tracks.
Although the truck received extensive damage, deputies said the driver received only minor injuries and was taken to a local hospital.
The train conductor along with two other co-workers on board the train were not injured, deputies said.
No charges have been filed at this time pending further investigation, HCSO said.
The crossing on this road has no crossing arm or lights, but does have "RR Crossing" signs, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.
