ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (970 WFLA) – St. Pete Police detectives need help identifying someone they say is a suspect who stole an SUV with a 10-month-old baby girl inside.

Police say it happened Sunday around 2:15 p.m. at the Gethsemane Missionary Baptist Church parking lot on the 2500 block of 12th Avenue South.

Police say the victims were unloading tables and chairs at the church from their 2013 Toyota Highlander. For a brief period of time, police say they left the SUV unlocked, the keys in the ignition and their 10 month-old baby girl secured in a car seat.

Within the five minutes that the victims were inside of the church, police say two male teens got in the SUV and drove away. About three minutes later, police say one of the suspects dropped off the baby on the doorstep of 2022 11th Avenue South unharmed and still sitting in her car seat. The owner of the home arrived just after the suspect had fled, found the child and alerted authorities, according to police.

That night, around 7:30, police say the SUV was found in a parking lot at 735 22nd Avenue South.

Police released the following description:

Black male, teens, wearing beige shorts and a black tank top with close cut hair.

Detectives are asking for assistance in identifying the suspect seen in this video. Anyone who has information on this incident should call the non-emergency number at 727-893-7780, Text-A-Tip to 727-420-8911 or leave a confidential tip at 727-892-5000.
