St. Petersburg man charged with attempted murder

ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Pinellas detectives say they have arrested and charged a St. Petersburg man with one count of attempted murder in the first degree.

Pinellas deputies responded to 2500 block of 50th Avenue North around midnight Monday morning after a male calling from the home reported he had stabbed his grandmother. When authorities arrived, deputies say they found the 70-year-old victim in the home with multiple stab wounds to her upper torso and neck area. Deputies say she was transported to a local hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Deputies say the suspect was identified as 23-year-old Joseph Richard Levan who was charged with one count of attempted murder in the first degree.

As of 10:51 a.m. Monday, deputies say the victim remains in the hospital in stable condition.
