TARPON SPRINGS, Fla. (970 WFLA) – Tarpon Springs Police say officers and the SWAT team responded to a home early Wednesday after a man locked himself in a bedroom with his 1-year-old son. He has come out since and the baby was not injured, police said.
Police said it all began late Tuesday night just after 10 p.m. on the 500 block of S. Levis Ave regarding a complaint of a possible criminal mischief.
Police said a woman told them that her 27-year-old son had come inside the house acting strange and advised her that he doused her "rib shack" barbecue grill trailer with gasoline, which was parked in front of the residence. Then, police said he went into a back bedroom where his 1-year-old son was sleeping, locked the door, and would not respond to his mother at all.
Officers tried to make contact with the son but he would not answer them, police said. Then, police said at 5:36 the father of the child came out of the locked room after talking with negotiators.
This case is still under investigation, the father is being interviewed at this time, police said.
