ST. PETERSBURG, Fla. (970 WFLA) – UPDATE:Word from St. Pete police that a 15 year old Lakewood High student admitted to them that he had obtained a handgun and was showing it to another student when it went off, striking the other student in the foot. The 16 year old victim goes to a different school and it's believed that the two did not know each other previous to this incident.
Afterwards, the shooter claims he passed the gun off to another juvenile and police at this time believe the gun was taken during a recent burglary. They are still investigating as the gun has not been found.
PREVIOUS STORY: St. Petersburg Police said they are on the scene of a report of a person shot at Lake Vista Park, 62nd Avenue South and 16th Street.
Police said preliminary reports indicated that a 16-year-old male was shot in the foot while in the park and has been transported to the hospital for treatment.
Police said they are still investigating the circumstances surrounding the shooting.
Nearby Lakewood High School was on lockdown for a short time.
