Thanksgiving And Black Friday Safety Tips

St. Petersburg, Fla. (970 WFLA)-This holiday shopping season, the St. Petersburg Police Department reminds everyone to take a moment to lock your car doors and secure your belongings in the trunk, among other safety precautions.

Today at  3 p.m.,  Chief Holloway will kick-off a holiday safety operation, at Tyrone Mall.   Community service officers will  they begin distributing informational cards with shopping safety tips throughout the parking lot.   Officers in all districts will distribute them this week.

Also, Thursday evening and all day Friday this week, the St. Petersburg Police Department is partnering with Tyrone Mall to ensure everyone has a safe and enjoyable shopping experience.

-Police will have enhanced presence in the Crossroads/Tyrone shopping area

-Three electronic message boards will be visible to traffic that read, "Lock your doors and Put your belongings in the trunk"

-The police surveillance vehicle will be on site at Tyrone mall-Crime Prevention Officers will set-up a display in the Tyrone Mall Food Court

-Mounted Patrol ( police horses) will keep an eye on the Tyrone Mall parking lot on the heaviest shopping days ( 5 p.m.- 9 p.m. Nov. 23 evening, Nov. 24, and Dec. 23), in addition to other officers.

-Tyrone Mall Security will provide also escorts for patrons upon request.  Call 727-458-2229
