CareerSource Pinellas CEO on paid suspension

The chairman of the board for CareerSource Pinellas has suspended CEO Ed Peachy with pay while the agency is being investigated for possibly misrepresenting employment numbers.

Thursday's action follows a recommendation by Hillsborough County Commissioners to have Peachy suspended without pay from CareerSource Tampa Bay.

Commissioners say they're concerned about the controversy swirling around CareerSource Tampa Bay and believe CEO Ed Peachy should step down for the time being until a state investigation is completed.

The State Department of Economic Opportunity is looking into allegations that CareerSource has falsified employment numbers.

Peachy has denied any wrongdoing.  The CareerSource Tampa Bay executive board will meet on Friday.  This past Wednesday, the CareerSource Pinellas executive board decided to keep Peachy on the job for now, but formed a committee to determine if the agency had misrepresented the number of people it placed into new jobs.

Florida senators Bill Nelson (D) and Marco Rubio (R) have also asked the Department of Labor to investigate CareerSource Pinellas and Tampa Bay to determine if federal tax dollars were misused.
