Man Charged After 3-Mo-Old Suffers Skull Fractures

A 3-month-old girl is in critical condition and her mother's live-in boyfriend is under arrest after staff at Brandon Regional Hospital discover she suffered multiple skull fractures and brain swelling, when her mother found her injured when she came home from work early Friday morning.

Hillsborough County Sheriff's detectives say 27-year-old Demarcus Johnson was home alone with the child while her mother went to work.  When the 3-year-old's mother returned from working overnight around 4 AM Friday morning, she found her daughter injured and took her to Brandon Regional Hospital.

Hospital staff called the Sheriff's Office after the mother brought the child in, suffering from an unknown head injury.  She was then flown to All Children's Hospital in Saint Petersburg where she underwent emergency surgery, according to Detectives.

Detectives later arrested Johnson on Friday night, charging him with Aggravated Child Abuse.  He is being held without bond.

The Sheriff's Office says Johnson was the sole care giver during the time she was injured, but is not the girl's father.

Detectives also say their investigation is ongoing.
