The Tampa Bay Buccaneers release of Darrelle Revis coincided with the signing of free agent corner back Alterraun Verner who played with the Tennessee Titans who played four seasons in Nashville. Verner was the lone Pro Bowl selection for the Titans last season and was a second-team All-Pro after leading the team with five interceptions and 26 passes defended.
The 25-year old cornerback joined WDAE’s “The Steve Duemig Show’ following the Buccaneers introductory press conference on Wednesday afternoon and spoke highly of his new head coach Lovie Smith.
“He has nothing but a great reputation,” said Verner. “All the people I know that spent time with him or was coached by him had nothing but good things to say about him. Everybody says that he’s (Smith) a winner. Everybody says that he’s going to do things that kinder to the players, and people are going to want to play for him. Even after I signed, there were people that played with him that hit me up that said I’m going to love playing for Coach Smith. His reputation was really big and that was enough of a recruiting tool and how he handled being in other places.”
The new Bucs regime agreed to terms with former Tennessee Titans cornerback Alterraun Verner on a four-year, $26.5 million contract with $14 million in guarantees according to NFL.com’s Ian Rappoport.
