Home Of The Rays

Orioles Blank Rays 2-0

The Orioles capitalized on Rays miscues on Wednesday afternoon as they went on to knock off the Rays 2-0 from Tropicana Field.  The Rays (28-45) lose two of three in the series and are now 1-7 against the O’s (37-34) this season.  The Rays were shut out for the 6th time this month and 11 times overall on the season.

The Rays had a golden opportunity in the first inning when they loaded the bases with nobody out.  But Kevin Gausman struck out James Loney and Ben Zobrist before getting David DeJesus to foul out to end the inning.  Rays got nothing. Story of their season thus far.

The Orioles broke through against Alex Cobb in the 5th and they took advantage of a Rays miscue.  Zobrist muffed a routine grounder by Nick Markakis that would’ve ended the inning.  Steve Pearce then delivered an RBI double down the right field line to give the O’s a 1-0 lead.

Rays had another chance in the 6th when Evan Longoria led off the inning with a double.  But after Loney struck out, Zobrist lined out to left with Longoria on the move.  Orioles easily doubled him off to end the inning.

Orioles got a long HR from Nelson Cruz in the 8th to make it 2-0.  Gausman (3-1) got the win.  Cobb (2-5) was the hard luck loser, despite giving up just one unearned run over 7 innings.  Zach Britton picked up his 9th save.

The Rays continue their home stand on Thursday when they open a 4 game series with the Astros at Tropicana Field.  3-4 Chris Archer throws for the Rays against 4-4 Collin McHugh.  Our coverage on 620am WDAE and 95.3FM begins at 6pm with Tom Krasniqi and the Suncoast Hyundai Dealers Inside Pitch.
