It all begins this week for the Tampa Bay Rays as pitchers and catchers report to Port Charlotte on Friday morning, and one name which many experts believed wouldn’t be part of the festivities was David Price. Price’s name was rumored throughout the entire off season hot stove discussions as someone the Rays could move, but instead the franchise decided to keep Price in house agreeing to a one year deal in January.
However with the 2014 season on the horizon, Price’s name will be rumored much as a possible trade prospect according to Tom Verducci of Sports Illustrated. Verducci joined WDAE’s ‘The Ron and Ian Show’ on Monday and said Rays fans will have to get used to Price’s name being rumored throughout the regular season.
“I still didn’t think he (Price) was going to be traded this winter, I still think it’s a possibly in midseason or spring training maybe if somebody goes down” said Verducci. “I think just because he’ll go to camp with the Rays doesn’t mean he’s there all year. I think it’s something Rays fans probably should get used to the fact that there will be rumors that pop up from time to time.”
Verducci says there is still a good possibility the Rays could go the whole season with Price and try again next offseason to see if they could get a better deal that they possibly would have gotten this past offseason.
