The Business Side of Facebook
I often wondered about "Facebook businesses", who's doing this?
Is it making any money? What's the story here?
In an effort to answer my own question and possibly provide you, the reader, with some insight on the whole concept, I did some investigating and I have to say I am quite surprised.
I logged onto face book and started searching through my various pages looking for an independent business that was facebook based and low and behold...up pops "Little Red Bird Kitchen".
LRBK is the creation of Charlee Crawford, wife, mother, and full time teacher. If you go to her website littleredbirdkitchen.com you'll see where Charlee admits she isn't formally trained and only cooked "in the box" style meals until... the
Fast forward to present day and you find Little Red Bird Kitchen. There's no store-front or kiosk, not even a roadside stand next to the guy selling Tu-Pac area rugs...there is a facebook page and a website that ties in with it. It may not be the size of Pepperidge Farms but the last time I checked there was only one place that could offer me "Irish Car Bomb" cupcakes...that's right, you read that correctly...
Cup cakes loaded with booze and a sinful blend of only the best ingredients. Icing that was flavored with Bailey's Irish Cream, the cake was infused with Guinness and the mind-altering chocolate and Jameson's Irish whiskey gnash resting inside the cake was enough to cause a person to pass out from the gastro-pleasure.
Now that I have you by your taste buds...back to the question at hand...what's the deal with the facebook business?
Charlee tells me that it's been a slow start but it does work. She says it's been mostly family and friends so far, but the trend is catching. One might argue that the smaller the batch of food you're preparing, the more attention you can pay to each item...hence a more superior product. Little Red Bird Kitchen not only produces a superior product but every aspect of that product gets extra attention. It's evident in the end result.
I encourage you to check out the Little Red Bird Kitchen on facebook at http://www.facebook.com/LittleRedBirdKitchen and check out the website http://littleredbirdkitchen.com
Local folks doing incredible things, these are the things we should be rallying around as a community.
